You guys make great points, but those are very specific points. When you're talking in generalities as I was, I wasn't expecting one of you to think I was talking about dealerships who are cost driven, or which engine we were talking about at all.
I agree, when you have some of these new engines in mulitiple platforms for multiple years (chevy 350) it would be much cheaper to get reman'd or even new... however, there are times when the cost to rebuild is worth it. As in rebuilding YOUR engine... Machining is is a by-product of the rebuild, you can of course buy new/improved product for your engine, not debating that.
It's all about knowing, good or bad, that the engine you are using to power your truck was put together by you and those you trust.
