For the last week I've been in Jaurez, Mexico; Right across the border from El Paso.

Every fall and spring I go down with a group to the ghettos and build houses to improve the community.

In the past 9 years 59 houses, a school, a hospital, and a church have been built.

I've been going the last 4 years and I've seen awesome change even in that short of a time period. Less dead dogs, people actually maintaining their houses and vehicals.

It's awesome to be a part of that.

Here are some photos from the neighborhood and work site. It'll sure give you something to be thankfull for.

Here's the house they (a family of 7) were living in:

And here's the random teenage guys that came down (It was a "family" trip so that made it really hard for the straggelers) I'm on the far right:

Every time I come back from this trip I'm reminded of just how good I have it. It sorta makes me feel like an ass.

Well all, happy Turkey Day!

Oh, BTW

If anyone in the SW wants to get involved with this, we're headin down again in March. Hit me up if you'd like to come along. All are welcome

hey everybody, I am lookin to buy a 91 Ranger that is for sale locally, it is a regular cab, long box, with a 4.0 and an automatic behind it, I don't really know a whole lot about the 4.0's or the automatics that were put in rangers, any thoughts or concerns, or things to look at on the truck will be greatly appreciated, thanks :-)

no no i mean how long will u b down there in march?

So THAT's where all those pallets go that they steal from Wal-Mart...

That is nice work bigfoot. If you want to see an interesting documentary look up "Morristown, in the air and in the sun". it describes the same conditions you show in your first few pics in the cities on the border. This documentary does a good job of showing how NAFTA has failed the Mexican workers as well as the US workers.

NAFTA? Ya mean "'Nother Afternoon F*** In That A**" ? hahaha, sorry, i had to do it. (From Family Guy as said by Bill Clinton)

97RangerXLT, I will definatly have to check that out!

Mike, we drive down to El Paso in a day, (taking the same route we'll take to NM to meet up for the TRS 10Year - I25 south) we cross the border the second day, and go strait to the work site and work till 6:00 in the evening. By the first day we have walls up and together and the trusses built and hanging. The second day we get the plywood up on the walls and roof, the trusses nailed down. The third day we lay the tar paper and shingle (sp error) and flash on the roof, the trim on the house and the house is painted, the dry wall up, the electrical ran and tapped, the doors and windows in, and then we have a fiesta and present the house to the owners. The next day we go to the Jaurez Market and and a sweeeeeeeet buffet breakfast, and that day or the next day we head back home. Add that up and you got you've got your durration.

I'll be celebrating my birthday down there again in the spring for the 5th year in a row.

In the other neighborhood we work in, a guy built an entire 2 story house with a perfect arched roof all out of pallets. It's BAMF to say the least. But yes, in deed thats where they go! lol

hmmmmmm i might have to tag along with ya lol. i feel like i need to do something like that

That's really cool to be a part of something like that.

I was in Puebla this past semester (just south of Mexico City) and I went with a bunch of people from my study abroad group and we teamed up with Habitat for Humanity to build houses for the people who live on the poor outskirts of the city. What an experience. Seems like you had a great time in Juarez, I'll have to check it out.
