Mexican Quad Cab importable?

I don't remember the exact details but doors open after a vehicle becomes a certain amount of years old. Others like Mastodon Auto have been importing South American vehicles but they only do it with vehicles that are so many years old. So, if you can find out what that threshold is, that will help you get going. Of course, I'm sure there is all kinds of regulations and paperwork that still needs to be met and completed in order to get it done.

IIRC 25 is the magic number.

It's 25 years, but no federal law requires states to allow you to register the vehicle. Several states in the Northeast, especially Rhode Island and Pennsylvania, actually revoked registrations and tags already issued for tiny Japan–spec K–class cars and trucks that were legal to import under federal law.

Check your state laws. I've seen some 25–year-old gray-market Japanese imports licensed in Virginia, but further north is a problem.

By now someone on this forum has to have imported a 4–door Ranger.

For what the importers get for a Rover or 'Cruiser it might be cheaper/easier to just go buy a '19 off your local used car lot...

According to friends I have in commiefornia, CA doesn't even allow vehicles 25 years and older to be exempt from smog checks. 98 Ford Ranger has to be checked every year and pass. No exemptions. Good luck getting a Mexican vehicle into commiefornia.

There is a large importer and seller of odd/rare vehicles in Christiansburg Va. My brother sold him a Nomad. His website is very nice and has tons of import vehicles from all over already here and taxes paid. He was very good to work with I would try looking them up and asking. May even find you one.

someone here in houston imports cars too, and he has some cool vehicles. i always look at them but sometimes he wants some good money!

but i see those odd ball four door trucks we never get in america pretty regularly since i am really close to the mexican border

the last vehicle i registered here in South Carolina i did 100% online. before that @ the DMV they didn't look at vehicle. no inspections, no emission checks.

Over 25 years is the threshold.

I have seen two of these 4 door rangers here in Utah, one two wheel drive and charcoal in color, the other 4wd and white, both registered, i guess there must be a way somehow......
There's one I've ran into locally here on the trails. Posted a picture a while back. It didn't sound like it was a desiel when I pass it. Never got a chance to stop and talk to the guy. Did notice he's running out of state tags. But that's pretty common here with all the people migrating to Tennessee

Here in Alabama, I have seen one of the South American 4 door rangers up here with Mexican plates. They look almost exactly the same but there are many differences in the body panels and drivetrain. They use a Eaton transmission and a Dana 44 rear axle. I own one of the diesel engines and I have been trying literally for years to source parts from Argentina. It's not going to happen because of their communist government. You literally cannot fix or maintain one of these trucks up here, even if you could get one.

Part supplies are not an issue for the British and Japanese imports. You can get literally anything for the defenders that are being imported.
