maybe ford will do what dodge did with the durango and just stop production on the ranger for a year or two and we get a brand spankin new ranger in 2013 or 14?:icon_idea:

LOL Have you seen the new explorer? It looks like the edge!:annoyed:

Did you forget the "Freestyle/Taurus X"?

Seems's pretty evolutionary to me.... Cover the grille, squint, and tell me you didn't see this coming....

If you compare the "new" Explorer to the Freestyle/taurus X, its kinda like comparing an older Explorer to a ranger, only identical form the A-pillar BACK

i dont think we will be that lucky, but dont worry the Ranger legacy will be around for decades. i mean, afterall, the damn things wont die!

dodge ruined the durango, cheverolet ruined the S-blazer with the trailblazer, ford ruined the big bronco with the expidition. i cant imagine any automaker "bettering" things. hell, look what a ranger costs now, remember when they first came out they were under 10K? next we'll have a 35K ranger.-that will be butt-ugly and not near as capable as the old iron.

See those pics show it. Ford has gone the way of Porsche and has made the same vehicle design to the point that from a distance you can't tell which is which. Not like the past where everyone knew what an explorer looked like, nothing was anywhere close to it in the ford family! We are getting into a sad area for vehicle development and the big wigs think that throwing a badge on it makes it the same vehicle that we all know an love but I think they are sorley mistaken.

Don't get me wrong I bet any of them are comfortable and can tow the family pop up camper but calling any of them even a cross over (which is supposed to symbolize the convergence of SUV and mini van) is crazy cause I'd bet any of the "crossovers" would get stuck on wet grass. And I know the Explorer is supposed to have the active traction management or whatever its called but I couldn't ever see taking that low slung heavy awkward beast on anything but a snow or slightly slimy side road.

Rant over have a nice day.

P.S. at least the F250/350 still have a solid front axle thats something to be happy about

It didn't take long for the price to go sky high either! I priced out a brand new special order Ranger in 2007 and it was $17xxx out the door, now I can't touch anything but a red cab XL for under 20 it seems like. I think thats Fords way of driving sales down so they can justify killing off model.

That is kind of funny...

For a long time Ford trucks looked very much alike. A first gen Explorer looks like a Ranger that looks like a fullsize... about as undiverse across the board as it could have gotten... basically they all looked like bricks.

The 95-01 always looked kind of goofy to me, I was never a fan. The 02-10's greatly resembled F-150's and Expeditions... actually kinda hard to ID between certain Explorers and Expeditions at longerish ranges.

As far as being low slung and weak for towing... they measure and are rated about the same as a first generation Explorer in both categories... but they actually have power.
