i have a 97 mazda b2300. it has a 2.3 4 cyl engine with an auto trans. motor and tranns is about shot. i have a motor out of a newer ranger and a 5 speed. harness and everything is complete. or would it be best to find a 2.3? any info is helpful. thanks a bunch.

What year Ranger? If it is a 98-2000 2.5l it should work. It's the same block. Unless its a 2001+ 2.3l Duratec. Then I don't know.

for sure its a 2.5 i have a couple friends that have a 2.3 ranger with a five speed and a 2.5 5 speed but the 2.5 dont run like a 2.3 is that just his might be a bad one out of the bunch or are the 2.5 just sack less?:icon_confused:

The 2.5 is nothing more than a stroked-out 2.3. It's the exact same engine, except the 2.5 has about 15 more hp and about 20 more ft lbs IIRC. So, your friend's truck is broken.

how much stuff in the wiring do you have to change to 2.5 swap a 2.3 truck? will the shoulder plugs work or do you have to swap the complete harness? :icon_confused:

I think all you have to change is the PCM. I'm not sure about that though.

thanks a bunch guys.

i been debating on wether i should swap the 2.5 in it and drive it or take the time and put a 3.8 v6 out of a mustang in it so it will drive out really nice with a little bit of power.

I looked into doing this swap for my truck back when I first got it, if I remember right the 2.5 has a couple extra sensors like extra o2 sensors and stuff. What a couple people had done was just take the intake and exhaust manifolds and all the accompanying sensors off their 2.3 motor, bolt it to the 2.5 motor and drop it right in, not even a PCM change.

well i have a complete 2.5 truck. so i think imma swap all of it and engine bay harness. becuase the engine harness is seperated from body harness and has a sqaure conjunction plug.
