My credo
A legend to the old man, a hero to the child...
Back in 2013 the wife got sick of my old kelvinator and bought a maytag centennial washer.

7 years later its acting up and not spinning.

This whole washer is electronic/sensor controlled. I think its got a bad lid switch or shift motor, which ive ordered both but...

As i was trying to figure out and was reading....did you know these washers have trouble codes? Like a car? Its like trying to read OBD I Gm codes with engine light flashes...and i couldnt really figure it out...but...

still kinda blew my mind.

Our Maytag has a LED screen that does the code crap. Once in awhile the door lock sticks or something and I have to climb over the back of it and unplug it to unlock the POS.

Not to sound like Rusty but my old washer with a simple dial never had that problem. Without a computer it didn't need to worry about trouble codes. We are just washing towels, not putting a man on the moon...

My old kelvinator was dial operated. I still got it downstairs if i cant fix this maytag its going back into service.

I bypassed the safety switch on the kelvinator cause it wouldnt run cauae it thought the door was open....but that was simple as cutting the wires and twisting them togther. Cant do that with this modern shit

Why do you have a washing machine? You too lazy to wash your clothes properly? Its stupid technology. Things were just fine before washing machines. This is just nonsense crap pushed on us by the liberals who insist clothes need to be sterilized daily to be socially acceptable. I for one am not gonna be some stupid conformist and buy a washing machine.

Atleast washboards always worked.

Just google your make and model and what it is or isn't doing. You'll be surprised by the info you can find.

We have a Bosch washer and it spits out E13.... the problem is the if you add to much soap it makes to many suds and it won't spin because it doesn't think it drained.

Most common code on mine is “UL” - uneven load. My old machine would just walk itself out into the living room and interrupt your TV show.

I did do a google search. Ordered a shift motor and lid lock. 40 bucks for both.

I was surprised how easy it is to wrench on compared to my old kelvinator. I put a belt on it once it took hours. I could put a tranny in this in pry an hour.

Appliances started with trouble codes back around 2000. I was first introduced to them through a G.E. tech class with a refrigerator. When I went back into the Auto repair business in late '02 they had been in the high end front loader washing machines for a round 6 months or so.

I used to work at "UniMac" on the assembly line in Marianna Florida. Worked up to being a "wirer", putting in circuit boards and capacitors, and the like. Got the job in 1995 and worked there until around 2000. There have been error codes in "Industrial" (Hotels and Prison types that wash massive amounts at a time) and front load ( laundry mat ) systems ever since then as far as I know. As for the residential types, I have no idea. They recently ( ten years?) started supplying residential with the front load style washing machines but they do not have nearly the load capacity of a "real" front loader.

I still use my 1962 RCA Wringer.

To date, 58 years running, zero repairs made.

Hm.

Great grandparents replaced this one before I bought the house at some point. I haven't found the extra time/ambition to drag a washing machine out of the basement that really isn't in my way.

Goggle your make and model for reset codes and how to reprogram.

Whirlpool, Roper, and Maytag all the same.

Got tired of resetting computer so I got a Speed Queen.
