So after tightening the timing adjustment peg I topped up the oil...again...today I checked it after driving about 100 km and there was a drop on the dipstick...which means about 1.5 litres down...so I topped it up again today and drove another 100 km or so...and the level stayed the same...maybe down a mm or so on the dipstick...but that could have been what I wiped off when I checked the oil...

It's not leaking from the peg any more...but I can't imagine that I was losing that much oil through that...I know the valve cover is still leaking even after a new gasket (that I had to go and disturb over a clattering valve)...but not as badly as it was before I replaced the VCG...

It's not leaking around the PCV canister now that I stopped that up with aluminum tape on the canister shaft...my oil filter was literally drenched in oil when it decided to pop out...

I put a bit more stop leak in (the good stuff) today along with the oil and it didn't smoke at all...but, then again...it didn't smoke for about a year after I dumped the first bottle in back then...

I'm hoping to not have to redo the head because I'm pretty sure that it is a valve seal or two that had either hardened while the engine sat for six years or...

Last month I spent about $40 on oil...hoping to cut that down to a litre a month...at $5 a pop that stuff can add up really quickly when you're resurfacing the roads with fresh oil...:icon_twisted:

My mother's Honda Accord has been leaking oil for a couple years. One day the valve cover developed a leak that spilled about one and a half gallons of oil (about 6 liters) in less than 10 miles. I resealed the valve cover and we have been driving the car for at least a year since then without making any further repairs. I guess my point is, sometimes it can be surprising how much oil can get out of a single leaking gasket or seal.

Thanks for the input...I'm always amazed by these things...didn't check the oil today when I got back because I had a dozen other things to take care of before it got dark...will have a look at it later...but the oil pressure stayed higher than it has been for a while...

No "fingers crossed" emoticon...lol

EDIT: Just went out and checked the oil...so far so good...didn't drop an ounce...:icon_thumby:

Now I can actually change the oil the old fashioned way as opposed to osmosis...
