maybe getting a 91 exploder... swap???

Maybe I'm missing something, but why not just use the Exploder?

They are reasonably capable, especially the 2door version.

Is it thrashed?

Because they are like wheeling a school bus compared to a BroncoII. One of my friends is stripping his built/wheeled explorer to put the parts into a BroncoII.

3.73 gears are the most common ratio for explorers here. It think it varied by your regional area of the country, really.

With this route, he also gets all the options. Exploders typically come loaded (power windows, power locks, tilt steering, cruise control, sometimes premium sound).

who would want that crap?

They are not that long, about the same as a long bed or Supercab Ranger, which are lifted and wheeled quite frequently.

Somebody that does more with their truck than strap it on a flatbed and drag it to the local mud hole, although I would pass on the premium sound no matter what. They are nothing but grief when you go aftermarket.

If the sploder has a engine and axles worth contemplating swapping into a BII, then if something is bad it would be the tranny. I would much rather do a M50D swap into an Ex than a 4.0 swap into a first gen BII.

wow.. this thread kinda exploded.. haha no pun intented.

but the ploder is pretty trashed. but i haven't seen it in a year or so. and i love my b2. so i couldn't just trash it... too many good times. and im not much for all the extra shit. give me 4wd, and a couple of pedals and i'm good to go.

i do have a couple of 10 in subs, but there just cheapy walmart shits. get the job done, and if they get stolen cuz i forgot to roll up the windows that i don't have, or forget to lock the doors that don't have locks, then i'm not outta much money....

as for the lockers and gears, ya i prob should. and i just might, all depends on money. but it looks like i fried the tranny last nite after 8 hours of highway driving from AZ to CA. so i think the 4.0 and m50d is on first priority.

i expect this exploder to be a auto, so how much should i expect to pay for a m50d and where would i start looking localy other than the junk yards?

Junkyards. Unless you have $800 or so to burn (and even then, I could sure use it :D ). M5ODs almost always fail due to negligence (oil starvation or incorrect fluid). You need one from behind a 4.0L or 2.9L. The former are MUCH more common.

Most Exploders had automatics. Don't ask me why. But sticks aren't THAT rare.

ouch... ya i'll keep my eyes on the junkyards.. unless someone has one for sale around the southwest....
