My 87 b2 didnt have a tach in it so i put my own in.. seen a pic of a stock tach and it redlined at 5500.. I havent brang mine over 4000 i dont want to kill it, it is a 21 year old engine.. ur thought on a safe max rpm??

no higher than you feel safe going. 4k is a good ceiling, the 2.9 isnt making much power over that speed anyway.

the 3.0 on the other hand, ive bounced the red limiter once or twice.

Actually the rated power peak of a 2.9 engine is at 4600rpm.

5200 is "safe", but anything over 5000rpm except briefly in 1st gear
before shifting to 2nd is kinda pointless.

I shifted mine a lot over 4k, saw over 5k daily, 5500 frequently and 6200 a couple times. Hell I'd rap out over 4K at like 55 up long hills for extended periods of time, 2.9 always came back for more. No point going over 5k, just makes a lot of noise :D
