I am looking to buy a performance MASS sensor and first was wondering if what they claim is true, I have a cold air intake system and a performance programer, will the MASS make a difference? Also while I was looking I noticed that they only sell them for my Ranger with a 4 wire hookup, mine has 6, what is the difference here, anybody know?

I hope I got this in the right forum!!!

Unless you are running forced induction all you should want is a larger MAF housing. Summit has a Vortec 70 mm housing for about 120. You are talking about a new complete sensor and housing, right? I was thinking about one for my 93 4.0 but after reading into it and having poor results in the past decided against it. The maf only measures some of the airflow, and the ecu estimates the actual mass according to the size and flow characteristics of the stock intake tube. Thats why you also have to be careful about what intake system you run. It has to be one that is designed for stock maf sensors. But you have a tuner...I dont know, is there a way to tell your tuner what brand and size maf/intake youre running? Or do you have to translate the new maf voltage and input it into the tuner? What I am saying is if there is no way to tell your tuner that the vehicle has a bigger maf housing then it may go lean and cause pinging; or in my experience, unstable lope in the idle with check engine mil posted. Well this is what it can do

JET Performance Programmers for gasoline powered applications now include a built in scan tool with live data monitoring. This new feature allows real time monitoring of several vehicle sensors for fine tuning and troubleshooting. The following vehicle parameters can be monitored with the scan tool function:

-Calculated Load Value
-Engine Coolant Temperature
-Short Term Fuel Trim 1 & 2
-Long Term Fuel Trim 1 & 2
-Manifold Pressure (MAP)
-Engine RPM
-Vehicle Speed
-Spark Advance
-Inlet Air Temperature
-Throttle Position
-02 Sensors Bank 1 & 2
-Mass Air Flow Value

I hope this explains more, I actually havent used it yet, it is in the mail. But I guess my real question is will their be a noticable performance or gas mpg gain from this sensor swap?

oh and yeah My intake is designed to be used with the facory MAF sensor

I dont know what the throat of the sohc 4.0 maf looks like. On my 93, its big externally, but necks down to about half the size of the outer diameter near the head of the sensor. I think your maf is straight through if I'm not mistaken in which case no, It will not help any I believe. If your tuner displays maf volts, then you could risk buying the maf housing. Intall it, idle the engine, and if the maf voltage at idle is near stock specifications then it wont hurt you engine at least. I would suggest checking with someone else on this, My idea in theory should be true but you should get another opinion. I think a 4 wire is pre-obdII and a 6 wire is obdII. Josh
