when i disconnect the mass airflow sensor the truck runs fine but when its plugged in it idles about 500rpms shakes and dies if you give it gas? is the mass airflow sensor the problem. i also lost the motor ground that bolts from the firewall to the header guy at the junkyard told me that would mess alot of things up? is this true?

Losing a ground will def. mess things up. You should reattach it as soon as possible and then see if the problem exists.

I had same prob w/ my '88..
Ground wire broke loose @ bell housing..(couldnt see it).
Ran codes,changed sensors,pulled hair,threw tools,finally started chasing wires & found it.
It's ground for the entire ecm system, comes off o² sensor harness..
