I am confused. Truck was giving a code 157. It is a 1994 Mazda b4000. Probed maf red/blue wire back to ECC and received a reading of .2 volts that did not change when increasing rims. Truck was idling and running like crap, would die at red lights. When I got in it to come home tonight, light was not on and truck ran fine. Checked maf red/ blue wire and received reading of .62 and when I revved engine it went up to 2.38. Could it do that if it were going bad? Cleared codes and will see what tomorrow brings.
The MAF is basically just a few fine wires stretched in the intake stream. It is entirely possible for it to be partially broken just like some of the light bulbs do.
I see it frequently on F-150s and Fiestas (same MAF).
Have you tried cleaning it? Every couple of years I take the MAF out of my vehicles and clean them. I just use a Q-tip, a little rubbing alcohol, and a lot of caution.
Do you have a K&N or similar filter? They like putting a little oil on the MAF if they are over-oiled.
Yes, I cleaned it and no, no K&N filter. Truck was running bad again this morning and light was on. Seems to come and go. may just replace sensor and see.
