Marlin 336C debicle

Dude, they sound like they're either incompetent or they're jerkin' you around. Probably both.

I've never had any problems like what you're going through.

I agree, it is very strange.

well you don't want to hunt deer with .223 anyway.

Lots of people do in Nebraska. I can't see it being much worse than deer slugs, the slugs have a lot more power but nowhere near the range.

it's not about the ability to hit the target, it's about the ability to cleanly kill the animal without undue suffering.

With similar numbers to about 300 yards to both the 30-30 and 7.62x39 I don't see that being a huge factor... and after that the big guys have more energy but are dropping like rocks.

I hear of people using a 223 for it all the time around here. Most of the hunting I have locally you will be less than 200 yards from the deer, usually around 100 yards. That said I didn't buy my AR for deer hunting, I have a 243 and a 30-30 that I'd rather use for that. I honestly bought my AR for punching hole in paper and tin cans, cause I wanted something more powerful than a 22.

I'd like to do some varmint hunting with it eventually. My hunting club has a lot of Possums, Armadillos, and Coyotes that need to be thinned out a little, and nobody's really hunted hogs there in years. Also needs squirrels thinned out a lot, but there's a season on them unfortunately. If I were to plan to use it for hunting deer I think I'd build a 7.62x39 upper. I understand that's close to a 30-30 in ballistics, but I'd be a lot more accurate with the AR than the iron sights on my Model 94 clone.

Thick paper/cans or did you need the extra .003 hole to show up better? :D

Something that needs to be done rather than something that would just be fun to do. :icon_idea:

I do still want to get a Vaquero/Blackhawk pistol next, just don't know when that will be.

3.73 gears? What did you have before?

That's what I have in my truck right now, but I'm wondering what would be good for gas mileage. I'm getting a bunch of parts together for my 2.8 right now. Got a 390 carb I need to rebuild, an Offy intake, long tube headers, plus the cam which is in the mail just yesterday.

I've always liked the Rugers. I thought for sure I saw a single action .454 before, but now I can't find it. I do know they have a double action Redhawk, but I've always liked the single actions. I find I'm more accurate pulling back the hammer before I shoot. And of course I'd be using it for hunting.

3.31's, do not like. :annoyed:

It is for my dd, with a 32" tire they rather suck even with a 5.4. High gearing don't do you much good if you are always downshifting and can't use overdrive.

My Range has 3.73's too, I like them on it (with 31's) The 3 spd trans is its milage killer though. :icon_twisted:
