ok so on craigslist theres a 302 marine engines for 85$ and ive done a lil research on it.. from what i understand if i replace the camshaft / crankshaft with a normal one for a 302 it will work correct?

basically im asking if a 302 marine engine would be able to be converted into a truck engine

the tag on it says its a 1971 302 out of a ford torino if that makes a difference but he says it cam out of a boat? im confused on this

Only changes to the cam and crank are needed if it was a reverse rotation motor. What tag was it says it's from a 71 Torino ?

and the code he got off it is DIOE-6015-AA. and its the exact same engine as my friends 68 f250 same exact number on the bottom of the engine so im thinking maybe its not a marine engine at all.. although the guy said it came from a merc cruiser boat i dont know lol 85$ for that +custom fab motor mounts/ bell housing and i got a tranny for that 302 and x-fer case lol

If you buy it, you might plan on rebuilding it before you install it in anything. I really don't think it's putting out 350hp like the ad said either. my .02 though

Marine engines typically put out higher numbers. Unfortunately they are also typically reverse rotation due to the way props are made. I would check it out closely.

well he says it did come from a boat.. and that that its the same block and a 302 from a ford torino but its modified for a boat.. im thinkin if i change the crankshaft and camshafts to go the way automobiles go instead of the reverse rotation i could adapt it in my truck but after that it will prolly be cheap to just buy one that came from a truck lol

all the exhaust, intake, water pump and other coolant stuff is different as well and you will have to get all that.

My Ranger has a Marine 302 in it. But I got it out of a T-bird, so it may have already been converted to standard rotation. I know for certain it has had some work done to it at some point.

so what exactly would i need to convert a marine engine to a standard engine?

The only reverse rotation Marine engines are those that were one half of a twin engine installation. The single engine's are std rotation. The reverse rotation engine in a twin engine boat was done that way to counteract the opposite engine's torque, so if you let go of the wheel, the boat wouldn't want to steer in a circle. The prop orientation had nothing to do with it. A simple prop change would be all that was needed if so desired.

The only different parts are the crank and camshaft. On the crank, the oil control knurling at the rear main seal was the difference. The camshaft will be ground to allow the correct timing events in the opposite direction.

That's the engine's casting numbers, in no way can you tell that it came from a 71 Torino. Same block was used for several years in the early 70's and in many applications.

so basicly what your saying is this 302 isnt a reverse rotation?

ohh so all i would need to do is get a cam and crank from a normal 302 and it would work in my truck?
