Manually shifting Electric case?

I have a electric t-case and I was wondering how to shift it manually when I go off road? This is temporary until I fix my manual case. Thanks.
 
I believe you'll need to remove the electric motor from the tcase in order to shift manually.
 
i was wondering the same thing,mine will go in 4x4 no problem but now 4low wnt engage at all.& there are NO manual cases at the local junkyards.

has anyone ever rigged a linkage or homemade shifter?
 
its been talked about, but noones ever made it work.

theres a 1354 manual shift for sale in the for sale section as we speak...
 
I read about somebody that took the back of the motor off, did some welding and machining, and attached a cable to the shaft at the back of the shift motor. He ran the cable up into the cab so he could twist it to change gears. He was using a parking brake cable which obviously wasn't great for twisting - something more like a pipe snake with a plastic sleeve around it would be perfect.

I've shifted mine with pliers and it was a PITA. The shaft is triangular so there aren't any parallel flat sides to give you a good grip on it, and if you don't get it all the way into the gear you're going for, it will spring back to the gear you were in. It takes about 90° betwen each gear (2hi, 4hi, neutral, 4lo) so position your hand and your pliers to give you plenty of room to make the whole trip.
 
I used a vice grip for 2 years on mine. 2 wd is at 9'00, counterclockwise to
6'00 is 4 hi, then counterclockwise to 12'00 is 4 lo. the t case will hold itself in 2 hi or 4 lo. to keep it in 4 hi, i left the vice grip on the shaftand rigged something to hold it

yes, I forgot about that. It will not hold itself in 4hi, it will try to spring into 2hi or neutral.

I just shipped a manual 1354 from the northeast and it was $45 to ship.

ya, he was using bits of old serpentine pulleys as cable guides and whatnot. he started but never finished the project.

1.So A manual will bolt into a auto's place, with modification to the floor.

2.As far as the hubs go, the manual t case will work with the auto hubs, or will or should i replace them with locking hubs, from say, milemaker or warn?

3.Reason I say this is because my auto does not shift into any 4 wheel drive range when the buttons are pushed. The amber lights next to the buttons and amber dash lights are not lighting up, but the 4wd module behind the driver seat in the trim is clicking.

any insight? I know its alot. Thanks.
 
you have a bad shift motor. rebuilding or replacing it will make your push button 4wd work again.

you do not have to modify the floor to swap from an electric shift to a mechanical shift. there is a plate bolted to the transmission hump under the carpet that needs to be swapped. the hole is already in the floor...ford just used different plates to block the hole up accordingly (5sp vs auto transmissions and e-shift vs m-shift transfer cases). the only perminent modification that has to be made to the truck is triming the carpet to clear the manual case shifter. everything else is 100% nuts and bolts.

transfer cases work independantly from hubs. you could use auto hubs with a manual case, manual hubs with an auto case...or any combination inbetween. manual hubs are considerably more reliable (just like manual t-cases)...and give you the option of 2wd low range.
 
so it would be easier to find; or buy a:

A) manual t-case
B) lockin' hubs

Then to replace:

A)Auto t-case shifter motor
B)auto hubs

Not to mention reliability in both manual. Even though they are hard to come bye. And manual comes in both standered yoke and slip yoke.

let me know. as I am knew to 4 wheel drive systems. KNow how they work just dont know all the parts and BS.
