My 1999 Ranger has manual windows, has anyone ever attempted to use the factory door harnesses and window regulators in a manual door. Such as if I get the regulators, motors, switches, door panels, and door harness out of a power window Ranger or Explorer will the harness plug into the factory harness inside the cab and work properly? I have heard that all base harnesses are exactly the same for Rangers and have all the connectors to plug in factory options. I am sort of convinced because I took a none tach instrument cluster out of my Ranger and put a instrument cluster out of a Explorer with a tach and plugged it in and its worked great.

I did this to mine and I can say that they are not the same. Mine is a 02 so I can't say for sure on yours but the wiring on mine is different. For starters the dash harness is completely different. On the manual trucks the harness is missing the wiring for the security module. It is what controls the keyless entry and the horn whenever you have power locks and such. It sits right in front of the passenger air bag and is a white plastic box. The dash harness is also missing the power wires going to the doors for the regulator motors and mirror/switches. If you want to do a stock conversion for your truck you will need both door harnesses, a dash harness, regulators, lock actuators, door panels, the security module, the GEM out of the same truck (and the truck has to be identical to yours meaning the same engine, year, 2 or 4wd, and transmission). If that seems like too much work for you then you could get the door harness along with the regulators/motors, and some wiring and just wire it up to some switches and relays.

Edit:
I forgot, the power harness also includes one extra fuse that controls the security module.

alright thanks.. I'm thinking about trying it but it will probably be awhile
