Hello all. New user here. I just bought a 90 SC Ranger 4X4 with a 93 4.0 and a 2wd M50 trans. I need to get a transfer case and the corect trans. Does anyone know if the spline count and size is the same between the auto and manual transmission output shafts to allow me to use a transfer case from either transmission? I want to get the correct transfer case the FIRST time. Thanks for a reply.

The transfer cases used on the Rangers are all fully interchangeable as to what transmissions they came from/can go on to.

There are other issues, like a manual one from the 80s will not have the correct linkages to go against a 90s transmission, because the bolt bosses are in the wrong spots on the trans. And between 87 and 88 the bolt holes to attach to the trans went from standard to metric, but no, if you pull any Ranger t-case from something between 1990 and about 1998 there should be no major surprises.

GREAT!!! I'm a Jeep guy so ddon't know hte Rangers yet. However, I love Rangers and am glad to have one again after a long hiatus! Your information is exactly what I was looking for! I appreciate your reply!

since you will likely need a driveshaft as well, both transmissions offered after '90 (other than some oddball 2.9L ones that still had the older transmission, but I think it might be the same length as well) are the same length so the rear shaft is the same length...
