2003 ford ranger edge 4×4 Rolling down the interstate in 5th gear trucks running great. All of sudden petal goes to the floor and no gears are engaging..so i let her cool down and then start it up 1 nothing 2 nothing 3 nothing 4 gear is the only gear that will grab and with a lil research ive come to find out this is a ( limp home mode) feature of the manual trans but dont kno exactly why this happend with only 2000 miles on the clutch rebuild..Help please

it's not exactly a limp home mode, rather 4th is the only gear that doesn't use the lower shaft/cluster set.
4th is coupled straight thru front to back on the main shafts..
I'll let the trans experts take over from here.

can it be driven in 4th?? clutch engages & disengages in 4th??

I have a manual 5spd for a 3.0 if you want it $100. But I don't know where you are located

Yes, as said above there is no "limp mode" on manual transmissions, thats for computer controlled automatics, and something completely different

Yes, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th and Reverse all use the input shaft GEAR
4th is a 1:1 ratio so input shaft and output shaft are connected together, there is NO GEAR used

Transmission needs to come out

When you remove the top cover you will see the stripped input shaft gear, image here: http://www.nationalnewstoday.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/leah-schoenfeld-10b.jpg

On the top left is the input shaft and there is no gear left its stripped and damaged the counter shaft drive gear as well

This was not a common problem with your M5OD-R1(M5R1) transmission but is a known problem with most manual transmissions
If 4th works but the other gears don't then this is the problem, no room for other interpretations, lol

The M5R1 is engine specific and 2WD or 4WD specific
So if you need/want to replace it instead of rebuilding it you will need a 1991-2008 M5R1 from a 3.0l 4WD Ranger OR Mazda B3000 4WD
Can't use a 4.0l V6 trans or 4cyl engine trans or a 2WD trans

Offer above for $100 is a good deal, if its 4WD trans

It is possible to convert M5R1 2WD trans to a 4WD trans but does require some disassembly, your current 4WD tail shaft and tail shaft housing should be OK, wouldn't be damaged by the input shaft gear failure, and will fit on 2WD M5R1

Yes clutch works fine in 4th

well that is a long ass way away

Strap it to a pallet and ship it through Fastenal 3rd party logistics. I bet you can get it there for about $150.

$250 total for a working m50d might not be too bad a deal unless he has a good junkyard to pull from.

... if he can set that up from his end, I'm down. Tell me where to ship it and where to take it to get shipped. I have no idea where a Fastenal is, but I do know where a Granger is...?

Google would help with finding your nearest Fastenal. Their website talks about the shipping process. You'll need to figure out how much it weighs on the pallet.

I was researching that a few weeks ago to ship some wheels. It was cheaper than a regular trucking company. Then I found out I could put the wheels in boxes and ship them UPS a little bit cheaper. I found out about it from a friend at work who got something big like a whole engine shipped that way.

Good to know for future reference
