This is my first ranger. It's a 95 with 4.0, 5speed, and 4x4. My truck is flawless and it runs perfect. I commute with alot of time being on the heavy traffic freeways of so cal. I know most will frown upon this but how do I swap an automatic in my truck. What will I need to do the swap. I can wrench all day long but I dont know much about rangers and what transmissions are the most desirable. If someone was to point me in the right direction I would be very appreciative.

If your motor will accept it the easiest is a c5/c4 auto

Tech page has lots of good info

And just as a thought.........many people want to swap the other way, auto to 5-speed.
Maybe if you posted here(for sale forum) or local craigslists or.....??, you could find someone with an automatic 4x4 of similar year/generation who wants a 5-speed, and you use each others vehicles as donors, trans, PCM, wiring, ect......

Ron I thought about that. I just don't want to open a can of worms not knowing what I would need to do and what parts to swap. I want to do a little research before I tear apart 2 trucks and cause major headaches. I was more concerned about the computers and such. Hard parts are no big deal to me. I rebuilt my brothers manual in about 5 hours from pull to reinstall. Are there any write-ups here that I might be able to checkout.

Dude a c4/5 no computer just a vac line and a kickdown cable. And they can take a beatin

I have been searching and I see alot of people saying to go with a c4 or a a40d. Why has no one suggested using the 5r55e that came in the 95 year. Is there a reason against this? The reason I am even considering this is because my unlcle has an 03 with the 4.0 and auto. His truck drives amazing and has plenty of power. I know I'm going ass backwards with switching from manual to auto. I would like to trade my truck for a clean 2wd with an auto and 4.0. I have had zero luck. My 95 is a 4x4 with 5 speed. .I got my truck for such. A good deal that I would hate the idea of letting it go.
