Manual to auto swap won't start!

Hi i just swapped a manual tranmission into my 96 ford ranger. I have everything back together but when I turn to key to start my relay clicks and nothing happens. I know the starter works because i tested it outside the vechical. Could it be related to me not having the manual ecm still in the truck? Please help.

Recheck your connections. You might have a broken wire.

Only connection i made was the manual transmission harness. what wires of importance could be broken in there.

You hear the relay click. That means the safety circuit is intact.

I am thinking that you may have damaged one of the starter wires. I recently did an engine in my truck and the little trigger wire for the starter was broken at the end of the job.

Don't think is could have anything to do with ecm? And I'm going to look into what you said. Thanks.

I would check ground wires.

The auto would use the neutral safety switch and the manual would use the clutch safety switch for safety purposes of starting.

How did you incorporate this into your swap?

When I did the clutch on my '97 I came across the same issue. I wound up taking the starter out and cleaning the bellhousing and starter where they come in contact when its installed. Fired up every-time after. i'm pretty sure it grounds out thru the bellhousing; corrosion could restrict grounding.
