Hey,

Did 2000 Rangers come with manual T-cases? My dad wants to swap the auto t-case on his 2000 4.0 with the 5spd auto, so the case is a 1354.

Thanks!

Ben

No they didn't, but you can still swap in any BW1354 manual as long as you use the front drive shaft that came off the t-case you swap in.

^^what he said.

make sure to grab the gear position sensor off the new tcase as well, leave some wires there, then those wires need to be tapped into the gauge cluster. So your 4hi and 4lo lights will work properly. No other wiring is needed.

you may or may not have the proper tailhousing on the trans....need to make sure on the driver side of the tailhousing, there's two threaded bungs. those threaded holes are what the shifter linkage bolts to. if you dont have those, you'll need a new tailhousing that has the threads.

The case you want, comes out of a 1st gen explorer and about 95-97 rangers with the 4.0. on the case there's a few markings and tags that tell you if it's a 1350 or 1354. You want a 1354.

Grab a 95-99ish style front driveshaft from an explorer...they are double cardon design, so no CV bearing BS like on 98+ rangers. And, it'll bolt right to that 1354 you want to put in.

All '90+ transfer cases were the BW1354.

No 2.8Ls in '90+ trucks ('83-'85 only)

2.9? I'm not too knowledgable in the old trucks. What about 4cyl trucks...I personally pulled a linkage off a Gen2 4cyl ranger, and it was a 1350 with the offset long piece, flat arm that bolts to the stud, and a spline front output....

So let me get this straight, ALL 90+ tcases are 1354's?? I find that very hard to believe...

Well... Believe it.

That Gen-2 you pulled the 1350 parts from was either a 1989 or early 1990 model (1990s with a 11-'89 & later build date (along with all following years to present) came with 1354s).

Also... on the front shaft.... I have a 94 Explorer here with the double cardin shaft from the factory and I'm under the impression that all (91 through 94 IE: first gen) had the double cardin shaft. Someone pipe up and tell me if I'm wrong please.

^^they do.

I'm unsure when the IFS A-arm 95+ trucks went from Double Cardon to the POS CV style found in 98+ rangers. I've got a 95+ Expo double cardon in my 01.

Thanks for the info 4x4junkie.

All '90-'97 Rangers also have the double cardon front shaft just like the 1st Gen Explorers.

Yes Shane, all '90+ Rangers, Bronco II's, and Explorers have the BW1354.

That would make sense then, since 1354's all have the double cardon.

Thanks for adding to my noob knowledge in these older trucks!! Will prove useful whenever i get off my butt and get me a BII!

I fliped that around to make my post make more sense in my head. lol.

I have a m5r1 tranny swapped into my 87 Ranger SuperCab. I have two different xfer shifters and neither one fits! What would it take to make a 1350 work? What Xfer shifter, linkage, etc?
