So I've been reading a lot here.. Great info I must say. Finally registered after reading here for the last year or so :icon_cheers:

Anywho, I really want to put a manual t-case in my truck(1988 4wd Ranger, A4LD, 2.9L), mostly because I want to and I absolutely hate not having a shifter. I plan on doing hubs at the same time as well..

What I'm wondering is what vehicles usually came with a manual BW1350? Also, once I score the t-case, anyway I can check and make sure it's good before I do the swap? Reason I ask is my Ranger is my daily driver, and I can't be down much more than a week due to my play truck getting about 9mpg. I figure I'd try to do it over winter break when all I have to do is drive to work and not 35 miles to school...

Will I have to worry about any computer issues in an older vehicle like mine?

I been wrenching on my rig since I've had it.. had the trany down a couple times so I figure I could do this just fine.

I believe the 1350 ended when the d35 started, so somewhere around 89-90. Make sure you get the correct linkage for your rig (a4ld and fm146 will both work, fm145 will NOT because its shorter), the fm146 started in 88 FWIW. Ive *heard* M5OD linkage wont work even though the tranny is the same length as the A4LD and fm146, but I dont know that for sure.

Now that's some good info.... I was planning on doing an FM146 swap eventually anyways, good to know.

By the way.. I'm in Washougal! Nice to know there are others close too :D

No electrical issues. The transmission and truck have no idea when your in 4WD, other than the indicator lights that are only there for your knowledge.

They can be re-wired to make the indicators work.

Man, I have not heard the name NakedDucks since like 2 forums ago.

Well I posted an ad on CL looking for a t-case, wish me luck.

I might've scored another ranger, same as mine with a leaking trany.. thinking that'll be the project that an FM146 goes into. Can't go wrong for strong running and shifting for $200...!
