I'm thinking of getting a manual t case so I never have to worry about electronics failing. If my hubs are locked could I still "shift on the fly" into 4hi or do you have to be stopped

Not true, you can shift between 4WD-HI and 2WD at any speed provided your hubs are already locked.

To shift into 4WD-LO requires you to stop however.

Yup. Do it all the time during the winter. Heck, most of the winter I just leave my hubs locked.

Gotta be stopped for 4LO. 4HI is any speed up to 55 the book says. But if i'm driving somewhere shitty enough to need 4wd i'm probably not even doing 50mph.
