Manual t-case conversion

It says it just needs a shift motor.

To answer your question, no. You would have to find the shifter with all of the linkage and locate a 1354M.

If I was going to buy it, I would just fix/replace the shift motor. Especially if you're going to use it as a beater.

I wouldn't bother fixing an electric shift T-case

JUST Because if you fix it doesn't mean it'll STAY fixed.

To be honest and blunt I'm getting a truck almost exactly like that, for free...

Except the one I'm getting not only has a dead e-shift T-case,
but a sick 5sp trans and a 3.0 engine that uses between three
and four quarts of 20w-50 to run through a tank of gas.

Awesome find!! :shok: Do I smell a new build in your future Allan

Un-hijacking this thread....

The manual transfer case swap is not difficult. As said earlier, you just need the case/shifter/linkage and it's pretty straightforward. If you can score a manual case, you'd be way better off doing that than fixing the e-case.

now is it hard to find a manual t-case? any trucks that i ccan grad one off that would work?

The Borg Warner 1354 manual case that was paired with the manual tranny 02/03 FX4 will bolt right in. I believe that's going to be the newest ones you can find. The same case was in Rangers and Explorers (and maybe B2?) a long time ago but I don't remember exactly what years. I know nothing about the 1350 manual case - whether or not it would need any modification or if it would even work at all.
I found this:http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/TransferCases.html
This probably has all the info you want. I plan on reading it all too.

thank you sir, read alot of it hopefully i can grab the truck, im only 17 and have my regular truck to get me araound and i have a job and a little extra cash in the bank, but i gotta worry about college, so maybe i can throw 1700 into a mud truck we will have to see. thanks for the help thus far

Late 1990-up uses the 1354. The manual shift's are hard to find, but not near as hard to find as the shifter and the correct linkage.

The later models (1998-up Rangers, 1995-up explorers) use a weird CV style front driveshaft.

The CV front shafts are awesome if your truck has a big lift on it and you plan on going playing in it because it lets you have that much more articulation in the shaft itself. I am running these front and rear on my CJ and front on the Ranger.

The 1350 T-Cases are super rare just as said before, and best found in junkyards since your looking for cheap. Best if you find either a Pick a Part or something of that matter just because the drivetrain components such as t-cases and trannies are left in the trucks until someone pulls them out to take, unlike other yards that pull the engine, tranny, and t-case when the vehicle arrives. They are usually in the bronco II's, but sometimes you can score one out of a ranger too. If money is more important than time, just keep searching the yards and craigslist, one will show up. Junkyards are how i built my entire underneath, including the 6" skyjacker kit

:icon_confused: Uh, wow, lots of mis-information here... You are looking for a Borg-Warner 1354 t-case, NOT a 1350... They are usually NOT in BII's, most BII's will have a 1350, only the very latest (after 11/89) BII's have a 1354 case... The best place to look for a 1354M would be a Ranger or Explorer Sport with a manual transmission (EVERY 4-door Explorer I've seen has an e-case, and I've only seen 1 Ranger with an auto and a 1354M)... AllanD might correct me as he's seen way more RBV's than I...

Thanks. I have seen 4 in Bronco II's and 1 in a Ranger. Maybe that is just the places i am looking though

I've seen more than 4 in BII's but they weren't a 1354 which is what would be needed for a 1990 up with the D35 front end...
