manual shift t-case conversion

is there a company or does FOMOCO make a manual shift transfer case i can bolt up to my 99 ranger? i have the automatic. also is the off-road edition auto considered a "five speed" because of the torque converter lockout? i have tried to count the shfts but 2-3 is just way to smooth for a ford product heh.

The manual T-case from a '02 FX4 (or '03up FX4 "level II") will fit your '99.

'90-'97 manual cases will also fit, except you will need to swap or modify your front driveshaft.

If you have a 4.0L, your auto trans should be the 5R55E, which does have 5 actual speeds.

The 5R55E Automatic transmission in your '99 Ranger (presuming a 4.0?) is a true 5sp automatic that does NOT count the torque converter lockup (which is never counted)

They accomplish this by jiggering wiht the gear and overdrive ratios
from the parent of the 5R55E, the A4LD so that there isn't gearing
duplications when the overdrive is switched on and off in gears
OTHER than 4th...

Yeah, it's "sneaky" but it works.

Theoretically it's also possible to make the same basic transission into a 6speed if
the gears are chosen carefully and programming changes are made.
