I've seen that there are something called AVM manual hubs for these? Anybody have luck with them? I've also read somewhere that it may be possible to use Jeep Warns. Might be for older Rangers though. I just don't trust the auto locking hubs, never did, even though they worked good on my old Exploder. What do ya'll recommend? I don't plan on abusing them to the point of being "grenaded". Thanks everyone

I can't help you with the aftermarket manual hubs, but I modified my PVH hubs to be manuals. I can't tell you how reliable this is as I have not tested them on some hard trials, but so far it works good.

Plus it it didn't cost me anything.

The jeep warn hubs wont work on yoru 99. They only work on 97 and earlier rangers with the TTB.

Your three options are AVM manual hubs, you can modify the hubs yourself to be manual or you can take the hub apart, put it in the locked position, put it back together and disconnect the vacuum lines so that they will always be locked and you will never have a doubt.

alright thanks guys. i have seen posts about converting them yourself. to work like a ball point click pen basically. Ive decided to go for the AVMs.

Danger I have done both. first I locked my pvh and they were like that for 3yrs. but when I had to replace my non sericable hub I had to littarly cut the hub in half do to the pvh gears rusted to the drive hub lets just say not so much fun. so I orderd the avm's greesed the SH#% out of them and have had no problems since and you can use low gear ( 4 lo) in 2wd for moving heavy stuff with out worring about your front axle.

Haha, you had to do that too? My hubs' housings ripped from the wheel bearing assembly and left the gears inside it. Wasn't that an AWESOME repair? :icon_twisted:

Yeah not so much I did get to use some power tools but man It was a BIT$$ just to get to that dam snap ring oh and not to mention the dam bolt on brake caliper braket SNAPED in 2 lets just say some choice words were used. 4-5 hrs later it was fixed. then I had to order the avm hubs.

I actually notched the lip of the hub assembly in three places with an air chisel, and then forced the gears out that way.

That snap ring blows.

sounds like a lot of fun! i'll go with AVMs right off the bat so i don't run into that problem :P
