hey guys, on my 2.9 the flange for the exhaust manifold to the y pipe is of course rusted and broken causing an exhaust leak(i know its common)...ive searched but would just like to try and get a definite answer on whether or not a propane torch will heat up the threads enough to remove the bolts without breaking them...or maybe soak in pb blaster? or do i NEED an ovy/ace torch to get them out? can someone who has done this let me know what method they used thanks! -Bobby

You are going to need oxy/acc torches to get it hot enough. I just went through this on my sons truck. The manifold needs to be heated until it is cherry red before the rusty bolts will budge. Then I had to work them back and forth and reheat a few times until they finally came out.

2 people is ideal for this one to hold the torch and one to run an impact to get them out. just make sure you dont drop the hot ass bolt on you. it will leave a hell of a burn. get them red and keep them red hot till you get them out and heat the manifold not the bolt
