How is it that THIS Mallory Distributor rotates clockwise and THIS one rotates counterclockwise but both are for Ford 2.8 V-6's?

one only gives engine info the other gives engine and vehicle. my guess is one might be for an engine with a reverse rotation. iirc some boats and stationary equipment used a reverse rotation engine.

They do have different applications listed for each one. Maybe there are some rare 2.8's out there that use a timing chain rather than the normal timing gears. It could be a european thing, they did alot more creative stuff with these engines over there than they did here.

They only show the earlier engines on the applications charts. I'd call the manufacturer and get something IN WRITING that says it will fit your engine if you really want to spend that much on a distributer. (A look at the enlarged illustration show both gears to be the same - or its the same picture) A stock distributer should be good to well over 8,000 rpm, which is more than most engines will ever see.
As for turning in two directions, I could only guess, but people in England have done more with this engine than we have - lack of V-8's over there. I can't recall a timing chain conversion, but there may have been one.

Warning on all parts: some of the listed applications on many parts are wrong. You get a new part or your money back only; no labor or time wasted.
