Makg?

What's wrong with K&N filters?

The stock intake will flow just as good as the motor needs and does a better job at keeping dirt/crap out. The only think that K&N are good for is increased sound and the fact that you never have to change them, just clean them.

The other problem people have is they over oil them which in turn leads to dirty MAF sensor and other issues...

also the reason they help flow better is that they dont filter as small of particals as stock filters. you cant get better protection without resricting a bit of the air flow. oh if were raggin on parts here how about fram oil filters. junk since they use a cardboard gasket for the return after the first few uses of it that thing lets oil go anywhere instead of properly through the filter itself

Is that a joke or what? You can't say that you didn't know that would start a bunch of shit. :)

Use what you want, the fact of cleaning is what makes me reluctant to use them. I'd rather get something new, install, and be done with it IMO.

The PRICE alone would negate any economical savings, and you got to purchase the recharge kit.

As long as paper elements are cheap as they are, there really is *no* **NO** need for the K&N filter, if the K&N was so good, the OEM manufacturers would be using it.

About as good as a turbonator.

**rant mode ON**

WTF is going on, the old parts stores had the "good stuff" that just worked. Now you go to a ricer zone(autozone) and just look at the CRAP they try to sell you, K&N filters, oil additives(do you really need an oil additive?) turbonators, anodized human skull shifter knobs, lighted tire valve caps, etc.

Half the stuff is "scam shit" WTF happened to selling quality goods, I mean half the stuff in there is junk, cheaply made, and will not last long.

i have been using a K&N filter for 5 years, ZERO problems!

and i just cleaned it for the first time last summer.

Had a K&N in my ranger about 3 years ago, till I saw how much dust and dirt was stuck in my intake tube and throttle body when I was building my snorkle. Cleaned the tube and the throttle body out and went back to a Motorcraft paper air filter and have never had to clean the intake tube or throttle body again. I ditched it for that simple reason.

As for e-fans....I have a Taurus fan sitting in the shop that will go into the ranger pretty soon. I'm not looking for or expecting any HP gains or fuel mileage gains. I do a lot of deep water crossing during the 4x4 season and simply want to be able to turn the fan off during a water crossing. My stock fans has tonnes of stress marks and cracks on it from being submerged.

CAI's and tornados are a complete waste of money tho IMHO.

Maybe you guys are doing something wrong? I have a 4" K&N cone on my Buick probably sucking twice as much air as a stock ranger (hellllooooo M90), in a MUCH dirtier environment (behind the bumper), just cleaned it for a first time a couple weeks ago, and had no dirt inside of my intake.
