I work at a local scrap yard where we are not allowed to buy anything once it enters the yard. Today alone i had to watch a 60s scout half cab, 70s ford f250 high boy and a jeep cherokee country w/factory d44s get crushed. Are people f@#$%n retarded? And last week a classic bronco rust bucket but with running gear still intact, just makes me sick and wanting to rescue them lol.

wow, why are you not allowed to buy anything? They just do scrap only? Thats lame.

i could not work at a place like that. they'd fire me for smuggling parts out...

have you explained to them that they could probably make their money back and then some by parting some of these things out?

It's like Johnny Cash "One Piece at a Time" in reverse.

im surprised, most companies want money, offer to buy it from them for more than they'll make off it :)

They are a huge company and see it as a liability somehow, makes a person sick, tons of good parts explorers with disc 8.8 ect. Makes me wanna quit lol.

Well, that's what you get when you have a society that sees cars as a disposable commodity.

It's a govt conspiracy........ They have raised the junk prices so high, that its not worth keeping the old stuff anymore. There are tons of newer vehicles going to the scrapyard because they are too expensive to fix.

Last month cars were going for 245 a ton. So a broke down B2 would bring 400 bucks over the scales.

They don't want these trucks on the road anymore. They want us to........ gasp...... buy...... new vehicles.

I have a friend who owns an auto scrapping business. He can not take parts from the car and sell them, everything must be recycled. His business is right smack dab in the middle of several auto wrecking yards who are allowed to sell parts. The difference is the license he has from the State. You've got to have certain licenses, insurance, and the space to operate as a pick yard. All 3 of those factored into why he only recycles. He has a machine that he puts wiring harnesses into, and it strips all of the copper (and other metals) out. It's a pretty profitable business.

I've asked him to grab stuff for me before, and he won't bend.

On a side note, my other friend who owns the transmission shop is showing some interest in starting a wrecking yard. If that happens, I will be a partner for sure.
