mail symbols next to each thread & knock sensor

ive been wondering what the mail symbols next to each thread is for, they change color and are open and closed and sometimes have an added arrow.

also not related, but does the knock sensor retard the timing to reduce pinging?

Um, I dunno about the "mail symbols" but yes, you are correct about the function of the sensor. It is used to retard timing to prevent ping.

Thanks that's what I Thought, but knocking and a ping are supposedly different, it was just a question lingering in my mind, thanks again

When you see an arrow, it means:
horizontal: thread moved to a different forum
downward: you have posts in this thread

Color:
Red: This thread is popular, based on number of views, somewhere around 150
Blue: Not very many views yet but you have read
Tan: You have unviewed posts in this thread

Open/Closed:
Open means you have not read all the posts in it
Closed: you have read the posts in it
