Maf sensor problem

Hi there,

The previous owner had a maf sensor from another car installed. It' a 94 4.0 ohv ranger.

It runs on gasoline and on natural gas, similar to glp.

When I run on "Glp" it runs smoothly as it requires less air (it even has a tbi reduction, like a funil {this is normal}).

So now that I want the extra ponies from petrol I realized it's misfiring. Before I open the engine and check the valves, if they are sitting correctly, I wanted to check if there are any AFTERMARKET or a MAF SENSOR FROM ANOTHER CAR that could replace this one. Probably there will be explorers on the list... I can't really find many parts for 94's here in Brazil but there are plenty for 95-97... would they work? I've noticed that the part numbers are almost identical... the only difderence is the end. My maf would be F07F-12B579-A2C.

Any help is appreciated.

I've also noticed that there are some parts that are instead of F07F, they are F57F... (F07F-12B579)

F = 199x. 0 = 0 so 1990
F = 199x. 5 = 5 so 1995
I don't know what the 7 and other F stand for but may be plant where built and type of part.

F07F
F0 = 1990 as said, or F5 = 1995
7 = Ranger
F = electrical part/department

12B579 = MAF sensor part number, not model specific

As said the number/letters after these are revisions, can matter

Yes, 1994-1997 would work as long as its for a 4.0l engine and 4 wire, 6 wire have a built in air temp sensor

I've got this one right now... F57F-12B579-BA.

Rockauto suggests F07F-12B579-A2C

Could this be responsible for my misfire?

No

Failing MAF can cause bogging and hesitations but not a steady misfire
Misfires are spark, fuel, or compression

Compression, generally, won't be intermittent as its mechanical, so best to test that first whenever there is a misfire issue

There's a constant "little machine gun farts" noise ?. From low the medium range revs its noticeable... maybe it exists in the higher range too, but then I can't hear it.

But now and then it really bogs bad. To solve this I have to clutch and step on the gas until 4-5krpm, then it comes back to "normal"

Bogging was a common sign on the 4.0l OHV when MAF sensor was dirty or failing, these should be cleaned once a year, its easy to do

I've cleaned it already with rubbing alcohol and a cotton tip... not sure if it's good enough... I've heard it should be cleaned with some eletrical fluid thingy...
