I cannot find a shifter for a M50D R1.

what is the deal

Help

I have three ;)
Exactly what do you need there?

Just as a heads up, the shifter is different for the M5OD-R1HD, 2001-2011 Rangers with 4.0l SOHC
1988-2000 M5OD-R1 are all the same

Just got a reman. M5R1 didn’t come with the shifter stub or the shift lever. Ordered the stub but I’m having no luck finding the lever online.

Pay special attention to what RonD said.
Can you please define stub, and lever?
If it's what I'm thinking, actually only have two of those
I hope you didn't get yours from Midwest, they're the reason I have two "stubs"?, three shifters, and three transmissions (and a bunged up truck :/ )

This reads as you got a re-manufactured tans for your RBV but was missing the "stub", the fork that enters the trans that the "Shift lever", the stick that you actually grab a hold of to shift the transmission.

So first, as RonD mentioned, there are 2 different ones so we need to know what year trans you are dealing with to help you.

Second these usually do not go bad so if you are just missing the one from the old trans or never had one a junkyard would be the ideal spot to hit up for this part. But this again circles back to you need to know what year transmission you are dealing with so you can get the proper one.

I can not do a search for you because you have not given all the information needed to find the proper one you are looking for.

There is a pin you can tap out of the lever and then you can grind a notch wherever you want/need it for whatever lever you end up with. The stub is specific to the trans (a R1 stub isn't supposed to work in a R1HD and vice versa) from what I have read. Shifters don't really care if you get into a pinch though.

Difference between a R2 and R1HD, the regular R1 is different yet. The pin goes in the slot, the wedge bolt engages into the big notch and is actually what holds the shifter from moving around.

How I made my chrome FX4 Level II shifter fit my R2 trans:

That's pretty darn slick.
Does the longer one take a longer reach to shift?

The throw is pretty short with the Ranger shifter on the R2, the original R2 shifter is a lot longer.

I have never been around an R1 other than the steal the shift lever.

You have them both in the picture ;)
Does the stubby one take up less leg-room through the shift pattern? (I guess that could only make a difference if the tops are both the same length)

I modified the longer R2 shifter stub to accept a Ranger shift lever. The shorter R1 stub will not work in my R2 transmission (R2's are out of F-150's)
