I have installed a Duratec 2.3 and matching M5 into a Sunbeam Alpine. Unfortunately, 2nd gear has practically no synchronizer left. The initial fill was with Mercon V synthetic, then switched to Redline MT90. There was a slight improvement, but double clutching is still necessary. Otherwise, it appears to be in good shape. Synchronizers for this tranny seem to be incredibly expensive. I'm wondering the best and most economical way out of the situation.
I have a mid 90's 2.3 M5 that is in good shape. Is it possible to swap parts between the two trannys? If so, what would have to be changed? Are the synchronizers in the newer transmission that much better than the old style? When the synchronizer goes, what else can I expect to change? Any ideas as to the cost of parts to repair the newer box?
