I'm considering an M5OD to replace the 5R44E in my '02 3.0 2WD. With 217k on the clock, I'm finally starting to see issues pop up, and since I've been looking for a reason to dump the auto anyways, this seems like the way to go. I've got a buddy with a junk yard, he's got about a dozen Rangers, most of which with 5-speeds. So I'm covered, parts-wise. Wear items like clutch, slave cylinder, and (possibly) flywheel I'll just get off RockAuto.
Now to the questions:
I've heard that there may be different bolt patters between 3.0 cranks in auto/manual trucks. Is this the case? And if so, is there any way to make it work w/o swapping the motor?

I know the starter and computer will have to change.

Anybody know what I'll have do wiring-wise? If the entire trans harness can be replaced, what years will plug straight in? I'm not scared of some custom wiring but with all the computerized crap I'd like to keep electrical mods to a minimum. Anything else I need to know before jumping into this? I want to have everything ready before I tear my truck apart, hopefully keep this as short a job as possible.

200+ on the OD, if he really is your buddy have him find the lowest mileage complete engine and manual transmission and pop it into your truck! Apples for apples easiest swap there is.

the bell is different on the 3.0 than it is on the 4.0 we were halfway into the swap on the truck I recently purchased. when somebody said they thought I had a 3.0 transmission. Thankfully I had one off of a 4. 0 so that all worked out even though it was very very hard work.

Well I had no way of knowing that until now. Duh, LOL
If buddy has a yard he also has the hotline and you can find what you need.
the site has all kinds of help and information but you need to go to the main page which doesn't it usually show on a cell phone.

You will need a clutch and brake pedal assembly, new Hydraulics don't even think about using old lol
Everybody tells me the wiring is a no-brainer just plug in clutch safety switch or bypass it.

The crank pattern should be the same. It wouldn't make any financial sense to build the same engine with two different crank shafts, for different transmissions.

The wiring changes will be minimal. Leave the existing trans harness in place. At the plug for the trans range sensor you will need to identify four wires. Two for the park/neutral circuit will need to be cut and spliced together. The other two are for the reverse lights. They just need cut off and spliced onto a connector for your back up light switch.

Unless you can find the same year in a 3.0 manual to take that subharness from.
