So I just got done swapping in a m5od in my 89 ranger and I'm still runnin my 2.9 clutch. The problem is I can't find a block plate or separator plate or what ever ya wanna call it for a 4.0 junkyards are bone dry round here. So does anyone know where I could order one or if I could just grind out the starter whole on my old one? Thanx in advance

I'm hitting the yards up here in Seattle on Thursday, I'll check the price sheets in a few, id pull one and send it priority flat rate for sheet cost + local tax and shipping, probably not the easiest option, but let me know

The 4.0's at rusty's are automatics and pull a part in Charlotte had a few but the starter and plates were gone

Unless you're also doing the 4.0L clutch swap (4.0L starter), there's no need to enlarge the starter hole on your old plate.

Yea I'm runnin my 2.9 clutch right now but I got the 4.0 clutch, flywheel, and starter to go in it when I get the block plate figured out

Enlarge the hole in your old FM146 plate then (what I did on mine). I recall it only needs to be enlarged a couple millimeters (just make sure you do it uniformly otherwise the starter pinion may not engage the flywheel teeth correct).

I don't even think there is a difference between the manual separator plates I think 2.9 n 4.0 are the same I'll check tom, n take pics n compare them.

Update the only difference between the 2.9 seperate plate and the 4.0 separator plate for a manual trans configuration is the 4.0 plate is a tad bit longer on the bottom to compensate for the two extra trans mounting bolts of the m5od.

here's the 2.9 manual plate on top of the m5od plate notice the m5od plate is about 3/4" longer on the bottom with two extra holes
