M5od sounds...

Does it whine in 4th?
It does not whine much in 4th, nor should it right? I am not claiming to be a m5od aficionado, but assuming 4th is direct it should not be as noisy?

Stipulated stipulation... of one twelve valve Cummins installed into the frame rails of said ranger.
Yes. Goot. Now this should be entertaining.

I could make a cummins fit in a ranger...

Making it work is a whole other story, the weight of the engine and trans would have devastating consequences.

Can't be any worse than this 1100 pounder in a full size Chevy.

I put a cummins in a full size bronco before, wouldn't take but a bit of beefing up to make it work in a ranger.

Doesn't matter. It needs cheese. Get that M5OD some cheese, for crying out loud!
Provolone, cheddar, American, Colby, Swiss or are we speaking Brie, feta etc? We need to be specific here. Serious business...

So in a previous forum I did a lot with dodge/Cummins builds etc. A few of the guys there built ram chargers with 12valves in them, it was still a chore. A full size bronco; all the way! To use in a ranger sounds like something dangerous is going to happen. Just my .02

Yes. 4th is direct, so fewer moving parts are moving, and it should be quieter.

But direct is achieved by locking the input and output shafts together, while they normally have to spin at different speeds. There is a bearing in between them in a pocket on the back side of the input shaft. It's a hard place for lubrication to get to, hence the ATF. If there is a significant reduction in transmission noise in 4th gear when that bearing isn't moving, it can point to an issue with the pocket bearing.

I'd be up for a 4BT.

4bts are great, I wish there was a way to keep the vibration from those engines down.

Bolt a coffee can full of cement to the side of it.

That's Ford's go to for vibration control. Sometimes they include some rubber.
