is this bad? the spring that keeps the shifter in the middle while in neutral apparently broke on one side, its all loose between 1/2 and 3/4 but the spring for the 5/R side is still ok, I had noticed it getting weaker a while ago, but didn't think anything of it... the tranny does have somewhere around 200K on it, so I figured something would happen soon

so, should I care or not? I'm thinking no, but figured I'd ask before forgetting about it...

Thanks

as long as there arnt any littlw pieces to get chewed through bearings......

recommend a fluid change, i wouldnt worry about it beyond that though. just remember that when your shifting. dont want to grab 1st instead of 3rd. :D

under further investigation, I think it might have stretched out and not broken, since it does get somewhat stiffer half way over

anyone else have any input?

and since you mentioned it, it's a lot easier to hit 2nd instead of 4th, third is more of a pronounced push over so I've been making that one :)

thought I'd bring this up again, it's gotten looser than it had been

is this bad? how hard is it to fix?

Thanks!

In my truck it just got stuck so when i had the transmission out the last time I took the top cover off and worked it back and forth until it started going on its own. If its gotten looser I would definitely check your bushings on the bottom of the shifter to see if maybe they crumbled to pieces.

looser as in the movement of the shifter to the left (as in no effort at all), it's still stiff as stock going to the right and up and down into all gears
