OK, i have a 1993 ranger 4.0 with M5OD BRAND NEW tranny in it. Just picked it up from the body shop and noticed that when I go to shift from left to right, the shifter spins as I go from left to right. Seems to start rotation as soon as I hit third gear area and continues to 5th. Any idea's? Is it a bolt that can be tightened or sound like something down in the ball area. Like i said the trans is brand new so it's under warranty, but if it's a smaller thing I can check then i'd rather do that, thanks!

Sounds like someone didn't tighten the bolt that secures the shift handle to the transmission (located under the boot). I'd give that a check.

sounds like the washers, and cups on the shift ball need to be replaced, or possibly one of the pins that hold the shift ball in place has come out...
If it's the washers you'll need 2 of each of these parts
part#'s
1L2Z-7Z120-AA
1L2Z-7228-AA
E8TZ-7E018-A
when i bought those parts in september they cost me $56.46...
if you have any more questions get a hold of me...

Thanks for the replies! I took he boot off and looked and it seems the bolt was tight holding the shifter on but I agree that one of the pins could have come out or broke because when its in gear it will still go all the way to the right, if in third or fourth. Tomorrow if i have time I was going to pull the shift linkage out and give it a look. Maybe something obvious like bushings or something will be there.

Thanks again for the input.
