Im in the process of pulling the m5r1 out of my 94 4x4 ranger and im running into some problems, there is a sensor on the passanger side of the transmission up by the shifter it was held in with what looked like wood putty and when I started pulling it fell apart. Inside was a spring and two thin wires, is this the speedometer sender? Also the hydraulic line for the clutch, how on earth does that thing come off of there? Is it threaded in? This is my first time pulling a ranger transmission all the others ive seen had an external slave cylinder so im not sure how thats supposed to work exactly. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Sub'd, putting a man in my truck next weekend so want to follow this, sorry no helpful stuff to add to this one:)

Look for a small (usually white) sleeve at the Hydraulic line junction. Slite that into the female (master Cyl) side of the hose. It should pull apart when it is in far enough.

The speedometer gear is on the drivers side of the trans about 3-6 inches down, near the back. What you are looking at is a neutral start switch or reverse light switch. Both of those are up near the shifter base plate, one on each side.

So it should be the reverse switch...a manual transmission wouldn't have a neutral safety switch or would it? My car just has the switch that the clutch pedal contacts and that serves as the switch or is the ranger different? Basically what im trying to figure out is will i have to piece that back together or will the transmission still work with that destroyed such as it is.

On the drivers side of the transmission towards the top there will be the reverse switch.
On the passenger side of the transmission towards the top I believe it will be a neutral sensing switch.

Now i've run into another problem, i took the four 12mm 12pt bolts off the driveshaft where it connects to the transfer case but I still cant get it to drop down. Is it just seized on or is there something else holding it together?

I'ts probably a little rusted up. There's a centering lip on it so it won't just slide off, needs to come apart maybe an 1/8" or so.

Some careful working of a screwdriver/chisel in between things should pop it apart. Just don't put too big of a gouge in things.

you must use a Praye bar to remove the hydrolic hoses and pull it or using the clutch coupling removal tool T88T-70522-A or equivalent. Slide the white plastic sleeve toward the slave cylinder while applying a slight tug on the tube.

Actually push IN on the line while you are trying to push the plastic sleeve in
OTHERWISE you are putting more tension on the barbs making them more difficult to release
