Hello all and sorry for the "gasket" mispelling lol, in school ignoring professor who is off on a tangent lol anyway.. i believe i need a gasket that goes in between the tailshaft housing and the main body of the transmission on a M5od r1. Anyone know where to get one? just use RTV?

I was able to get one from the dealer, it probably wouldn't hurt to replace the bushing/seal on top of the trans for the shifter while you're at it.

I don't see why RTV wouldn't work, just make sure you don't use too much and you let it completely dry first.

Good luck.

I have pulled at least 10 M5ODs and not one of them had a gasket there. Just use RTV.

No gasket anywhere on the transmission expect for maybe the shifter. The transmission is put together with tolerances in mind and a gasket would throw them way off.

thanks for the input, just to be clear the tranny can stay in the truck while i remove the tailshaft housing, right?

Yes, but you to find a way to support the trans since the mount is on the tail housing. Why are you pulling the tail housing? Its not to much more to unbolt the bell, disconnect the slave, unbolt the shifter, and drop the whole trans.

just wanting to make it as easy as possible, for times sake as it is my daily and i believe that is the only spot it is leaking

Check the shifter rail plugs while you are there and the tail shaft is off. They are alot easier to change out then.

It's called an "extension housing" and before you remove it make sure first that it's actually leaking from there. Leaky shifter bushings or shift rail plugs can cause fluid to run down along the mating point of the case and extension housing causing it to look like it's leaking from there.

Ok, ill have to take a look at those parts, does anyone know of a good diagram to look at?

On a 2wd it is called a tailshaft housing.....4x4 is an extension housing.
