Hello all, I'm new I just got a 2000 Ranger 4x4 ext cab and the transmission started acting funny.

After warming up, if i come to a stop and let the clutch out (at a stop light), when i go to put it in gear 1st, reverse or any gear, it wont go in at first. It will make a very slight cluck like the syncros are trying to engage but it wont fully go into gear. if i hold the clutch down for awhile before i try to put it in gear sometimes it will go into gear. if the vehicle is moving and i let the clutch out it doesnt do it. like i said this is on a warm engine and doesnt do it when i first start it up.

Anyone have any idea what it can be? Maybe i need to bleed clutch slave cylinder? Thanks for your help.

Try bleeding the slave cylinder.

It sounds like there may be air in the line. Are there any sounds coming from the trans area with your foot off the clutch in neutral? How is your coolant level? I had a truck one time where the freeze plug on the back of the engine was leaking and causing the clutch to mess up. When i replaced the clutch, i found a hole rusted through the freeze plug.

I think there may be a slight noise coming from the trans area and the coolant level hasnt changed. coolant is a little brown, i will be flushing the radiator today and putting in new coolant as well as bleeding the clutch. Its either air or master/slave cylinder. If i try to shift normally its a pain to get from 1st to 2nd or 3rd to 4 but i can shift with out the clutch (rev matching to next gear) it shifts perfectly
