:bawling:Bought a 94 ranger 4.0 M5OD 1354m. Got it for 400 bucks......
PO said the slave was out. No biggie.

When I tore into it. The clutch was blown apart. No biggie, planned on replacing it anyways. Replaced the slave, hyd line and master. Had hell bleeding it. Had a guy tell me to jack the front end up to bleed the clutch and it worked.

I have pedal, but it doesn't seem like its enough. I can't shift into gear while the engine is running, it just grinds.

So what the heck have I done wrong?:icon_confused:

To completely bleed my master cylinder, I had to remove the retaining clip at the top of the bore, disconnect the piston pushrod from the pedal, and carefully remove the piston from the bore, momentarily, and ever so slightly, while the brake fluid reservoir was chock full, then quickly pop the piston back in again.

After that it was 100%.

I had tried the regular fill/pump/bleed method, but because the master is on an angle, there is just no way to get all the air out of it.

The circlip is a bitch to get out and back in again, but the results were worth it.

The alternative is to remove the master cyl and bench bleed it.

There is a procedure for that, but it seemed like more work to me, so I went with the shade tree mechanic approach.

Bench bleed the master/line assy then install and bleed the slave like brakes...

I bench bleed the master by clamping the resi up high, putting the master in a vise, pushing the piston with a screw driver and popping open the check valve with a nail, let the valve close and then let the piston return....repeat a few more times.

Or gravity bleed the system installed...I normally let 2-3 qts flow through while jiggling the line to shake any air bubbles loose.

Ok, I went to the sticky and watch that video and a couple others. Going to bleed it some more tomorrow.
I was worried that something was wrong with the tranny. Sounds like I've still got some air in the lines
