Hello I am swapping a 4.0 OHV into a ranger that previously had a 2.3 in it. Its a 97 ranger and I am taking a blown up m50d 4.0 4wd trans and my 2.3 2wd trans and making a trans for my truck for the 4.0 swap. (4.0 2wd trans). So basically the only thing i am using from the 4wd trans is the case so it will bolt to the 4.0. My question is are the input shafts different??? I know the output shafts are different but not sure about the input shaft. I would hold the 2 next to each other but i do not have the internals from the blown up trans anymore.

You will be fine wanting to do what you are doing. Nothing is different between the cases nor the input shafts.

Have it all together and everything works/shifts on the bench just had to fool with the shims a little bit at the front. Just waiting for a flywheel and clutch/pressure plate to put it in....

depends on what it was originally mounted on... there are 4 different versions (2.0/2.3/2.5, 3.0, 2.9/4.0, and duratech 2.3), if it came from a 2.3L or 2.5L Lima truck it'll bolt to a 2.3L, 2.0L, or 2.5L Lima engine, if it came from a 2.9L or 4.0L it will bolt to a 2.8L, 2.9L or 4.0L, if it came from a 3.0L it will only bolt to a 3.0L, and same with the duratech 2.3L version...

you could of used the output shaft from the 4x4 with the 2wd guts and the 4x4 housing and still been able to keep it 4x4
