Hey, guys, I got a question. I have a '94 B4000 4x4 with the M5OD trans. A couple of weeks ago, I shredded 2nd gear, and I've been having a lot of trouble finding another M5OD with the 4.0 case. My question is, could I swap the gears from a 2wd 3.0 M5OD into my case if I used the shafts and such from my 4x4 trans? I would really appreciate any input i could get. Thanks

Yup, internals should be the same in both.

just did this swap w/ my 94 4.0 4x4 i used a 2.3 2x4 tranny. you can use the secondary/shorter shaft but you will hve to swap the gears over to the 4x4 main shaft due to the 2x4 one being longer

Yup, internals should be the same in both.

ACtually the internals are different but if you use ALL the parts from the donor trans...

Mixing and matching parts can get you into a world of trouble if you don;'t know how to identify the differences and know the interchangeability...

The cluster gear and all the gears on the mainshaft must be swapped as a set.

Alright guys, this helps a bunch. I might have a line on an m5od-r1HD, and if i can get my hands on that, ill just rebuild it and swap it in. If not, I'll probably go ahead with the original plan of swapping gears.
