Hi, I'm trying to use a '90 or so 2wd M50D trans with an '86 Merkur 2.3 turbo engine. My question is the engine has a steel oil pan, but the original engine bolted the the M50D had an aluminum oil pan that bolted to the bellhousing part of the trans. I went back to the jyard and got the aluminum pan and it won't work with the engine because the gasket setup is way different. My question is, what should I do? Should I just bolt it together and not worry about where it bolted to the oil pan? Let me know what you guys think.

Thanks,
Josh

All I can ask is if the gasket looks like it's absolutely important for it to bolt to the tranny?

I'm going to be doing a turbo swap from an 86 T-bird, but I'm keeping the M5OD too. I don't know if it has the aluminum or steel pan yet.

I can go look at mine tomorrow nonetheless, to find out if there is a difference.

Don't worry about the bottom holes. 2.9s have same pattern as the 4.0s, except the 4.0 has the bottom 2 holes in the oil pan and the 2.9 doesn't, so I don't see it being a big problem.
