Hey everyone, I know this transmission version has posts everywhere and sorry but I need to make another one. The previous owner of my 2002 FX4 decided to suck at 4 wheeling and screwed up the synchros on 2nd and 3rd. So my issue is now they are gone and I am trying to figure out where I can find a rebuilt one to replace it with since it has been rebuilt already once by the previous owner and my local shop is the shop he previously used. These transmissions are becoming harder and harder to locate. I appreciate the help in advance!

There are two different ones.

If I were to guess, it seems a lot of these modern transmissions cannot swap gears for the speed sensors, so they have a different transmission for each available gear ratio. That is just a guess.

I picked the first one. None came up in Washington. I picked the second one, this one came up. If you are not too far from another state, you could plug that in and see what comes up. This is from www.car-part.com

I've dealt with transmission exchange in Portland and they've always treated me right https://www.txchange.com/ I imagine they would ship up to you.

The hard part is i dont know which i have since all the stickers fell off over time and I cant identify which one I need.

This is what google AI says about the two different transmission numbers.

The 1L54-MA and F87A-FA are variants of the
M5OD-R1 5-speed manual transmission found in 2000s Ford Rangers (specifically with 3.0L or 4.0L engines), with differences primarily related to internal engineering revisions (likely gear ratios or shift mechanism updates) across different model years. They are generally considered interchangeable for the same engine applications, such as the 2004 Ford Ranger 4.0L.

  • 1L54-MA: Typically found on later models (indicated by the '1L5' prefix, often denoting a 2001+ design, such as 2001–2004+ Ranger).
  • F87A-FA: Typically found on earlier models (indicated by 'F8' for 1998+).
  • Compatibility: While Ford changed the tag codes, the 4.0L V6 transmissions (3.0L may differ slightly) are generally interchangeable for 4WD 5-speed applications.
  • Both are robust, manual transmissions, but minor internal revisions exist between the "1L5" and "F87" revisions.
