Hey, guys!
I've got a 2001 Ranger 4x2 with the manual transmission. Two weeks ago, a u-joint blew up on it (I know. I know. I had been meaning to replace them, but never "had the time") and the vibration knocked the oil seal loose; dumping most of my fluid.
Anyway, While I was out buying the new joints and oil seal, my friend did me a favor, so to speak, and removed the drive shaft for me. The problem is that he didn't really pay attention to what went where and, while he was telling me about the removal, he handed me the old oil seal and a metal sleeve that slides over the shaft.
My problem is that I don't know where this sleeve goes. I assume it goes on the engine side of the shaft and that the oil seal goes on the rear side, but it doesn't slide into the extension housing enough to allow the installation of the oil seal.
Does anyone have a good exploded view of the extension housing or even pics of how the shaft should look when its assembled correctly? I can't find anything either online or in the repair manuals that will help. This is killing me.
