I suspect that my hydraulic clutch, slave cylinder/throwout bearing is going out on me, it stays in gear and i have to forcefully shift to get out of gear, it only happens in 1st and reverse when i am stopping and starting short distances. I have a 1991 4.0 with a M50D-R1. Has anyone done a swap out of this? Is it expensive and was it really hard/ time involved? :icon_confused:

Have you checked or noticed a drop in fluid level at the clutch res. ?

Another for sure sign is to look throught the rubber inspection groumet on the side of the tranny and actually look at the slave. Look for brake fluid, maybe even run your finger on the inside. If the slave is leaking then more than likely there will be fluid sitting in the bell housing.

As far as difficulty, the transmission will need to be dropped.
