Hi all, new to posting on here, but am always reading the great articles. Hopefully someone can help me out here.

I have a 2000 4x4 3.0 ranger with 4r44e tranny. I also have a 99 4x2 3.0 with a M50D tranny.

My son wrecked the 99 and bent the frame 2 weeks after a complete rebuild, lift, and custom paint job, and now the 2000 4r44e tranny blew.

As you probably guessed I want to change the auto to a 5 speed.

I just want verification that I need to just change the main tailshaft on the M50D in order to make is match up to the transfer case, otherwise it will be to long.

I know everything else will change over. This will be my project this weekend.

Thanks for any input

You have to disassemble the transmission to change to 4WD output shaft(2wd is a different length), and then install 4WD tail shaft housing.

I would look around for a 3.0l M5OD-R1 from a 4WD, might be easier to find whole trans.

You will need to swap '99 computer into the '00, also ignition key cylinder(for PATS) and door locks so it matches ignition(if you want)

As said, you need to change the output shaft to a 4x4, and change the tail stock for an extension housing.

I've done it before, it's not too hard, but does require access to a press.
